The EPIC Participant Advisory Panel met in Norwich on Monday 4th February 2019. There were eleven participants and five researchers present. Three panel members sent their apologies.
Presentations from researchers using physical activity data collected from EPIC-Norfolk study
Dr Søren Brage (Group Leader of the Physical Activity Epidemiology group, MRC Epidemiology Unit), Dr Paddy Dempsey (Postdoctoral Fellow)and Dr Samantha Hajna (Research Associate) led the session discussing various aspects of physical activity epidemiology (relationship with disease, descriptive epidemiology, and socio-ecological determinants of activity), following three brief presentations. Discussions also included how we use the information that participants have provided to the study, how we ensure participant confidentiality, how we work with commercial entities, further plans and engagement with the cohort, and how we ensure we address questions that are important to the public.
Planning future meetings
The panel discussed topics that they would like to discuss at future meetings. Topics such as Brexit and its impact on the study, as well as the Unit as a whole. The future plans for the EPAP panel were discussed.
